Taran McGowen, M.A, LPC-S

PRACTICE OWNER | CLINICAL SUPERVISOR | THERAPIST

I believe that it’s time to prioritize yourself. I’m honored to help you do just that.

My approach to therapy is grounded in relationship. It’s the foundation of everything I do. From the moment we speak on the phone, all the way throughout our therapeutic relationship, my goal is for you to know that your therapist truly cares for you.

If you’re looking for someone who prioritizes labels and diagnoses’, I’m not your girl. While diagnoses’ and treatment plans are provided and have their importance, I believe therapy is more than slapping a diagnosis on someone. Therapy with me involves a holistic approach- understanding how your past, culture, family background, etc. have contributed to present circumstances.

I’m a therapist that values authenticity. I value ensuring my clients feel comfortable, but also feel challenged in therapy. Together we explore the big picture, while also providing practical tools to aid you in your daily battles. I value humor, and laughing together. I also value holding space for deep grief and sadness. There’s room for all of you with me.

My experience and expertise ranges from therapy for trauma, therapy for anxiety, therapy for life transitions, and therapy for couples. Many of my clients are people who feel extremely overwhelmed with life. They’re overwhelmed in their work, in their relationships, in their responsibilities to themselves and others, that they need someone to hold space for them. Other clients include couples navigating relationship challenges such as communication, infidelity, navigating marriage/parenthood, or even premarital counseling. If you’re any of these (or none of these, but still want to connect), I’d love to connect with you. I’d be honored to support you on your journey to thriving.

TRAINING & EDUCATION

I received my masters in Counseling from DBU and am continuing my education currently at University of North Texas in Denton, where I am pursuing a doctorate degree in Counseling Education & Supervision. My goal is to not only provide excellent and compassionate care to my clients, but to also raise up the next generation of counselors to do the same.

My counseling experiences have a wide range from school counseling, to working with intensive outpatients, to group and private practice, ultimately leading me to start my own in 2019. I currently serve as the practice owner and clinical therapist at Thrive House Wellness. I am also a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and have associate clinicians that I supervise.

I’m a wife, mom of 2, and dog mom. I’m a daughter, sister and friend. I value my faith, family and caring for my clients and myself in the meantime. In spare time, you can find my in sweats, on my couch, watching an endless amount of movies, at an indoor playground with the kids, or convincing my husband of a new restaurant or travel spot we should go to.
